Tarun Cherukuri selected for 2015 HKS Emerging Global Leader Award


Tarun Cherukuri have been selected as the recipient of the 2015 Harward Kenndedy School Emerging Global Leader Award

This award, formerly known as the Rising Star Award, recognizes an alumnus/a who has stood out as a leader or catalyst for change or as a person making a meaningful difference to individuals, organizations, or governments. Recipients exemplify the HKS mission “to educate enlightened public leaders and generate answers to our most challenging public problems” at all levels and across all sectors. After examining the materials for all nominees, the committee determined that you are especially deserving of this recognition.

The award will be presented in a ceremony at the Forum on the morning of May 16th, 2015, as part of Reunion Weekend. 

TARUN CHERUKURI A proud alumnus of BITS Pilani and IIM Bangalore, Tarun Cherukuri gave up his high paying job at Hindustan Lever to dedicate himself to the education of underprivileged children. After spending 2 years as a Teach for India fellow in Pune, Tarun was awarded the coveted Fulbright Scholarship to pursue his Masters at Harvard Kennedy School, Massachusetts, USA. Currently the City Director (New Delhi) for Teach for India, Cherukuri co-founded INDUS ACTION which seeks to mobilize public resources & empower communities to solve India’s deep rooted problems. INDUS ACTION’s premier project- Eklavya is an initiative to ensure that all children of India – irrespective of their caste, economic status, gender or religion – receive excellent education. 

He is inspired by children and their potential to change the world and drives his efforts motivated with the possibility of an excellent education for all children one day.
